Elderberry Syrup

Elderberry+Syrup+in+jar+large.jpg

Elderberries are a great immune system booster and are good for bronchitis, colds, coughing and especially the flu. They contain compounds that inhibit the flu from penetrating cell membranes and invading respiratory tract cells. The raw apple cider vinegar and raw honey add additional health benefits.

You can take the elderberry syrup daily to help prevent the flu, or every hour if you have come down with the flu (or a cold, etc.) This syrup is very beneficial to your health and it is ridiculously delicious!!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of dried elderberries

  • 4 cups of filtered water

  • 2 to 3 cups of raw honey (depending on how sweet you like it )

  • 1 cup of raw apple cider vinegar

  • This recipe lasts for 6 months in the fridge.

Instructions

  1. Place the elderberries in cold water and let it sit for an hour.

  2. Bring the  berries and water to a boil  with the lid on, then simmer on a very low heat for 3 to 4 hrs. Make sure to check on it periodically you don’t want the water to evaporate too much or for it to burn.

  3. Allow to cool with the lid on for an hour.

  4. Mash the berries and strain through a cheesecloth or a fine strainer.

  5. Add the apple cider vinegar and the honey

  6. Store in the fridge in a glass bottle  for up to 6 months.

I love to store my remedies in bottles from syrups and kombuchas. You can use any glass jars that you have to hand just obviously make sure they are sanitized and resealable.
